Meetings

All meetings start at 7 p.m. and alternate, at approximately 6 week intervals, between

(a) Tuesdays at the Mayfield Centre, St Ninians, STIRLING

(b) Wednesdays at the Educational Centre, Park Road, FALKIRK

Meetings are free and we usually have a guest speaker, expert in some form of Prostate Cancer treatment and management, or in a topic of local interest to members.

Meetings also provide patients with an opportunity to chat informally with fellow patients and carers over a cup of coffee.

Forth Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group was set up in 1999 to help fellow prostate cancer patients, their families and carers. We all have experience of prostate cancer and its treatment. We got together to find out more about this disease and how others were coping. Membership: We currently have 60 members on our list.

We meet at about 6-week intervals at either Stirling or Falkirk. Do come along to the meetings. You may speak or stay silent as you wish, but in our informal atmosphere, you may feel free to: -

Share experiences of various treatments and their after effects
Hear how other patients and carers are coping
Listen to qualified guest speakers from the medical profession and related services and
Learn about developments and new treatments.

You and your partner/carer are invited to attend future meetings of the groups.

Below are typical comments made by members:

•       Speaking to my fellow members who have had prostate cancer for over 10 years has made me realise that I have a future.
•       It is reassuring to speak to fellow patients who have experienced the same treatments and emotional feelings
•       I am glad that I joined the group. The more I listen to qualified guest speakers from the medical profession the more I feel that I can cope with the disease.
•      I now feel able to reassure new members and their carers who are worried about the side effects of their treatments.

Most people find that it helps to talk.

We have similar experiences ; would you like to talk to us?
