History
Prostate
Cancer Support Scotland (formerly The Scottish Association of
Prostate Cancer Support Groups (SAPCa)) was formed four years
ago at the prompting of a Scots-Canadian, with support from charitable
trusts and the enthusiasm of consultants in different parts of
Scotland. We began with seven groups and now have nine.
Our aims are "to alleviate the suffering and distress of
those suffering from prostate cancer and their relatives and carers
and to educate the public in all areas relating to prostate cancer
in Scotland." In other words to provide men with prostate
problems and their relatives and carers opportunities for mutual
support, to learn more about their disease, to make the public
more aware of the disease and to seek big improvements in diagnosis,
treatment and research funding.
The members of this Association are the office-bearers, the two
representatives of each of the constituent groups and a small
number of persons co-opted e.g. our Scots-Canadian friend. We
meet at about 2-month intervals in Perth to discuss ways of pursuing
our aims.
