Oestrogen therapy - In more detail

Oestrogen Therapy

This drug can be used if your prostate cancer does not, or ceases to respond to the LH-RH agonist or anti-androgen therapies. Oestrogen is a female hormone and is administered in tablet form. It suppresses the effects of testosterone.

The most notable adverse side-effect is the development of female characteristics. Men may lose their body hair and begin to grow breasts. Radiation may be used on the breast area before treatment to help prevent growth.
Oestrogen may affect the heart and for this reason it is only used in small doses. There is also an associated risk of blood clots.
